Problems Facing Uganda
HIV/ AIDS
Problem:
Currently, 7.2 percent of Uganda’s population is living with HIV. This amounts to an estimated 1.4 million people, which includes 190,000 children. An estimated 62,000 people died from AIDS in 2011 and 1.1 million children have been orphaned by Uganda's devastating epidemic.

Causes:
Only 39 percent of young people aged 15 to 24 know all the necessary facts about how HIV can be prevented, suggesting a lack of clear sex education. The fact that Ugandan women tend to marry and become sexually active at a younger age than their male counterparts, and often have older and more sexually experienced partners, places them at an increased risk of HIV. http://www.avert.org/hiv-aids-uganda.htm#sthash.PaTW3WRC.dpuf
Solution:
Expectant mothers are encouraged to know their HIV status. An estimated 94 percent of pregnant women who attended antenatal clinics received counselling and testing for HIV in 2011. Continued education and monitoring pregnant women will show lasting effects and a decrease in HIV infected persons. Educating the young people about sex education and the sexually transmitted diseases can be beneficial to young people. Allowing individuals who are experiencing the effects of HIV / AIDS to counsel with individuals; will provide a personal experience to the lasting effects of their decisions.
